The Proposal

From my last post….

“We got to Costco – and toured the store picking up the things he needed along the way. At one point, he had me laughing and asked me, “What am I going to do with you?”. That struck me as a very odd question. And then he answered his own question….and totally blew me away….”

“Why, I’m going to marry you if you’ll let me!”

My response?  Dead silence.

However, his response confirmed two things for me…first..his hopes for the future had not changed and second…I was NOT interested in any part of this.

We headed to the car and he asked if he could take me out to eat. Nope! Just take me home please. I didn’t want a “date”. I offered to fix sandwiches once we got home…and home we went!

I thought the conversation on the way home would be awkward but he avoided the “marriage” subject and chatted about our studies and the things we were learning. As always, his conversation was filled with humor and I found myself laughing. It was as if the proposal never happened.

We continued our bible studies together each week. There were more requests for “dates”. Each one was met with a polite, but cool,  “No thank you” from me. First of all, I didn’t believe in dating and second of all, I was just.not.interested. After all, my purpose was to help him see the errors in some of his beliefs.

And I was praying…asking Abba what in the world I was supposed to do with a man who would not take no for an answer. I felt as if we had established a friendship and shared many similar interests however there were enough differences that I knew we were not compatible. The question was…how do I convince the gentleman?

And then it began…..
